Roulette – Getting the Basics

how to play online roulette guideRoulette is one of the most popular games in any casino. And anyone who has visited a physical casino will know the basic rules. The online version of the game bears many similarities to the original game.

So, how to play roulette? The rules of roulette are simple. The players or the punters will actually make a bet and the croupier will spin the wheels. Depending upon where the ball lands on the wheels, the winning number will be declared. It is as simple as that. The role of a croupier is crucial in both the physical and online casinos. They determine the speed of the spin.

Now, how is the bet decided? Basically, the punter makes a bet on either the number that the spinning ball will land on or the colour of the landing pocket. How many such pockets are there on the wheels where the ball lands? Essentially there are pockets with numbers ranging from 1 to 36, and with one or two extra zeros depending upon the type of Roulette. The other bet can be placed on the colour – whether the ball lands on red or black pockets.

In addition, there are other betting modes. The players could place a bet on a range of numbers. For instance, the ball could land anywhere between pocket numbers 1 to 19 or the bet could be on the ball landing on an odd or even pocket.

Types Of Bets In Online Roulette

Essentially, there are two different categories of bets for roulette online.

Inside Bets

These bets are placed on the insides of the table with higher rewards and lower chances. Some examples of inside bets are:

  • Straight bet - This is the most common bet where the punter pinpoints to the exact number for the ball to land on. The payment is made at 35/1.
  • Split bet – The chances are slightly higher here with the punter betting on two adjacent numbers, with a price of 17/1.
  • Street bet – Similar to the split bet, the player here bets on three numbers with the odds priced at 11/1.
  • Corner bet – With even smaller odds at 8/1, the punter places their bets on four numbers in this type of bet.
  • Six line bet – The odds are placed at 5/1. And the bets are placed on six numbers across two rows.

Outside Bets

Outside bets usually cover a bigger part of the wheel, increases your chances of winning. The punter can work for 12 numbers with smaller odds. Here are some examples:

  • Colour – The punter here places the bets on the colour of the landing pocket. Red or black covers 18 numbers each.
  • Odd/even – As the name suggests, the bet is placed on the landing pocket being odd or even.
  • Number ranges – In here, the punter makes bets on a range of numbers. This could be something like 1-18 and 19-36 or it could even cover a range like 1-12, 13-24 an 25-36.
  • Column bet – As expected, this punter places their bets on an entire column.

5 Questions To Help Play Roulette

Here are some simple rules that the punters could follow in order to make it big at the roulette table.

1. When Do You Bet?

The croupier opens the wheels up for betting. You can place the bets once the rewards for the previous round have been handed out. You can bet for as long as the croupier does not call ‘no more bets.’ Thus, it is important to keep your eyes on the roulette betting board.

2. How To Make Bets In Roulette?

Each bet in roulette has different odds. If you are just starting out and do not want to take a lot of risks, the outside bets work better. On the other hand, if you need to make bigger winnings, inside bets are the way to go forward. But it is essential to read up on the rules beforehand.

3. When Is The Time To Quit?

Before you start your bets, it is imperative to determine how much you are willing to invest. And irrespective of whether you are winning or losing, this number should change. If you are on a losing streak, it is better to walk away. And if you are winning, the idea is to avoid getting carried away with the earnings.

4. How Do You Keep Winning In Online Roulette?

Roulette is actually a very exciting game. And if you win, you tend to change your initial tactics. This could prove to act to your disadvantage. The idea is to stay level headed while you win and leave with a profit!

5. How To Bet Again?

Most players tend to stick to the same bet every time. And if that is the plan, it would be good for your game. But since, most of the casino tables are required to be cleared after every round, it is imperative to remember the initial chips.

Now that you have a basic idea of roulette rules, try your hands on it now. Believe us, it is fun and entertaining, even more than what you could have expected!

Are roulette tables rigged?

This is a common problem for players, but the simple answer with the best casinos is no. They will have to pass regulations and checks to ensure the fairness of play to their customers. Therefore, at the best online casinos, the winning numbers are random, and thus the games cannot be rigged.

Can you really win at roulette?

Possibly, yes! We're not talking about "luck" or "hot numbers or colours" either! In roulette there it is a matter of mathematics, just you the 37 or 38 numbered ball slots. Betting progression tactics do not work and thinking a bet is certain "due" will not work. Remember as well, that the video roulette online is no more predictable than a slot game, as it is also run using a Random Number Generator. At live dealer games or at brick and mortar casinos the math should win every time for the house and there are few chances for immediate and large payouts. Then again, with expert advice and perhaps a bit of luck, over the long haul you might be able to make money. It is best to limit your losses mathematically with the following tips: Set limits and stick to them. Know the odds for each bet and the payouts. Play only European roulette for its much lower house edge of 2.7% If you manage to get ahead of the game, and are on the profit side, it might be a good time to cash-in!
